President's Message
Greetings, Eastern NC section of the Society of Women Engineers!
I am excited to be part of a leadership team full of bright and innovative women. We had our first leadership team meeting July 15th, where we started to transition and to outline goals as well as plan some future events. Our first event is a drop-in (virtual & in person) planning meeting on September 1st. I look forward to meeting you all there!
While I was not a part of SWE in college or professionally, I have been part of other engineering organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) and Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and American Water Works Association (AWWA). My professional goal is to change the current demographics of the engineering world and see more women, especially women of color in this amazing profession. I hope to contribute to that change through my new role as STEAM coordinator and Engineering & Math Teacher at the Salem Academy in Winston-Salem and as president of this section.
One intention for this leadership is to increase engagement with each other as well as with other community members and organizations. We also aim to inspire members, new and old, to progress professionally and personally. Our plan is to have regular meetups, alternating between in-person and virtual. A personal goal as president is to interact with other engineering organizations and start to do outreach to high school and college students.
Like our previous leadership, I also believe in the significance of supporting each other as women in engineering by spotlighting achievements, discussing our challenges and inspiring our members and others.
